No matter what you decide to do with your life, it is imperative that you choose to tap into the power that comes with spirituality as well as the power that exists in proper eating and nutrition. When you were an infant and preschooler, your caretaker probably made sure you were fed approximately every 2-3 hours. This helped to ensure your growth and development and played an important role in who and what you are today.
As you grew older, though and were given the opportunity to make your own food choices, you probably steered away from the diet and nutritional habits set for you. You may have carried these bad habits into your adulthood, just like so many others. Don't worry it is not too late. Start right now on a different path. It is important that you re-learn to eat frequent and balanced meals. Today is a new beginning.
Dont think that you can eat whatever you want just because you may be young or you don't have aches and pains regardless of age. If your really pay close attention, your body speaks to you. What is yours saying to you?
As you embark on this new beginning, it is important that you avoid eating too much junk food and food laden with sugar or salt. Now is a good time to make long-term changes in your diet and re-learn what you learned about proper eating habits.
As a productive person, you will need lots of energy. You will need to know what foods give you the best brainpower. You should begin now to make these changes so it will be easy for you to teach your baby to each properly as well. This is a time for you to be your healthiest. Healthy eating is not dieting. You are not trying to loose weight unless of course you are dissatisfied with the way you look and feel when climbing a flight of steps.
In fact, you are supposed to gain weight. It is often the case that if your life includes regular exercise and a diet that includes a good mix of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, grains, and legumes (beans) you wont have experience with weight gain and the woes it brings to life. This is a time to reassess your overall eating habits. Below you will find a sample of a good diet. Eating well is easier than you believe. An important benefit to building your food knowledge is that you will have the know-how to replace high-sugar, high-fat cravings with more sensible, yet satisfying, alternatives. Here are some suggestions:

Fat is Actually Necessary and Good For You!
What is fat?
Fat is one of the three macronutrients required to be eaten in relatively large amounts each day (the other two are carbohydrates and protein).
Fats and oils are officially known as lipids and they are insoluble in water. The difference between fats and oils is:
- Fats - are solid at room temperature
- Oils are liquid at room temperature
- triglycerides (fats and oils) - these come in various forms, both saturated (usually found in animal food sources) and unsaturated (usually found in plant foods) fats. The most preferable type of fat to consume is unsaturated, but small amounts of saturated fat can be tolerated without ill effect, as long as it is part of a healthy, well-balanced diet full of whole foods (wholegrains and natural, unprocessed foods)
- phospholipids - this is the double layer of fat that surrounds all cells in the body and needs to be maintained to keep cells healthy. Phospholipids are also found in various food sources, but the most abundant is lecithin (other food sources are eggs, liver, peanuts, soy and wheatgerm)
- sterols - found both in plants (phytosterols) and in animal (cholesterol) foods. Sterols are necessary for producing many hormones, vitamin D, for creating bile (which helps to emulsify and aborb fats in the body) and for making cholesterol (the body also makes its own cholesterol from other nutrients in the liver)
Essential fatty acids are those fatty acids that the body cannot manufacture on its own, so are required to be consumed on a daily basis to ensure good health. The two essential fatty acids (EFAs) are:
- Omega-3 - is derived from linolenic acid. Omega 3 fatty acids are used to make cell walls supple and flexible and improve circulation by ensuring proper red blood cell flexibility and function. Omega-3 deficiency can cause a whole host of health problems - impaired memory, mental problems, tingling in the fingers, reduced immunity, high blood triglycerides and LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels
- Omega-6 - is derived from linoleic acid. Omega 6 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and are useful for improving skin conditions (eczema), PMS, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetic neuropathy. Omega-6 deficiency is rare, because most people in the West get more than enough of this EFA in their diet
- heart rate
- blood pressure
- blood clotting
- fertility and conception
- regulate inflammation
- encouraging the body to fight infection

Indoor Grills Featured in Steven Raichlen's Newest Book
With a great number of city people living in condos, with no possibility to grill outside, Raichlen's latest book, "Indoor! Grilling" covers a topic of large interest, especially that grilling is a tradition in America, some sort of a national custom. So, this theme surely relieves a lot of frustration for the part of audience that had been previously left out!
Steven Raichlen is a cooking teacher, lecturer, author, journalist and TV host. He founded the Carribean cooking school Cooking in Paradise. Raichlen's TV show, Barbecue University debuted in 2003 on public television. The same year he was named the "cooking teacher of the year" by Bon Appetit magazine.
Participating in a "barbecue battle" on Japanese television and defeating Iron Chef Roksbura Michiba attracted him nicknames such as the "Michael Jordan of Barbecue", as Howard Stern called him or, like Oprah put it, the "Gladiator of Grilling".
Raichlen published over 25 books of which best-sellers such as Barbecue Bible Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades, Beer Can Chicken, Healthy Latin Cooking, Miami Spice, Big Flavor Cookbook and the famous first and foremost book on grilling, The Barbecue Bible, that appeared in 1998. It was the first guide on grilling, a study of barbecuing around the world and a course on live fire cooking techniques. His writing won 3 IACP awards and 4 James Beard Awards and was translated into ten different languages.
To write "Indoor! Grilling" Raichlen intensively studied these appliances and the technique to cook using them. Although the public of this category is familiarized with the many types of indoor grills, Raichlen treated them in a detailed manner, starting from the very beginning, from contact grill, grill pan, built-in grill to freestanding grill and fireplace grill. And to do this, he largely improved his knowledge about how indoor grills actually work. He tested the 270 recipes in the book on each type of grill.
What really takes grilling steps further is what the experimenting Raichlen does with sandwiches, vegetables and desserts in the recipes section.
